Adult Ski for Fitness

Ski For Fitness

This  friendly, non-competitive class is for recreational skiers or aspiring racers who want to improve skills and fitness at their own pace and level. Choose instruction in Classic, Skate, or both. You’ll also meet other skiers and have fun!  Great review of technique from basics to more advanced.

Beginners who have never skied or are returning to skiing after a long absencs may be more interested in the Thursday Nordic Newbies Program.

In January, Beginners can learn to Skate Ski on Tuesdays, and Classic on Thursdays. This will give them the ability to refine their skills in February by taking the regular Skate Ski program on Tuesdays and the regular Classic program on Thursdays.

During the first lesson you will be asked to sit on the snow with your skis on and be given strategies for getting up after a fall.  The minimum requirement for this program is that you can get yourself up off the snow on your own. Instructors will help you navigate the trails at Arrowhead so you can gain confidence to ski on your own and continue to improve your fitness.  Each session is Classic technique only.

Adult Mid-Week Group Lesson Descriptions

Fee: $60 for each group of 4 lessons plus $35 club membership fee*
Ski for Total Fitness! (all 8 lessons) is $115 (plus $35 membership fee*)

Are you interested in getting some exercise, learning a new skill, and meeting new people this winter? The mid-week adult lessons might be just right for you, as the classes tend to be smaller, and the park is less crowded.

There are four different classes, each with a specific focus. The lead instructors are Catherine Smith and Anne Lindsay, with back up from Denise Jordan, Eva Black and Kim Brophy.

Nordic Newbies - (Thursday, January 9, 16, 23, 30 from 1 pm to 3 pm)

This program is intended for people who are new to skiing and who want to learn basic skills.  Focus will be on comfortable movement on skis, learning how to stop, turn, and glide.  All skiing will be classic, so basic equipment (no wax skis are recommended) is needed.  There is access to rental equipment at an extra cost.

Ski for Fitness, Classic - (Feb 6, 13, 20, 27 from 1 pm to 3 pm)

If your skill level skiing classic is to basically “walk or lunge” around the trail, have you considered learning how to ski more effectively?  The focus in this class is to learn technique that will allow you to push and glide with maximum effect, while also getting a fantastic workout.

Beginner Skate Ski (Tuesday, Jan 7, 14, 21, 28 from 1 pm to 3 pm)

Have you always wanted to learn how to skate ski?  Your instructor will take you through the progressions from basic push and glide and poling to managing hills and turns, setting you up for success to be able to head off on the trails by yourself.  Again, you need to have your own equipment.  Rental equipment is available at an extra cost.

Unlike classic skiing, learning to skate ski is not intuitive and instruction will help you build the necessary skills and confidence. It can take a few lessons to learn the basics and you will love the feeling  when the technique comes together, and you feel like you are flying on the snow.

Ski for Fitness: Skate (Tuesday Feb 4, 11, 18, 25, from 1 pm to 3 pm)

This class will extend your basic skate skiing skills, focusing on techniques for flats, hills, turns, etc.  You will get a great workout as you glide through the park, experiencing the exhilarating sensation that skate skiing can provide.  The instructors are focused on fine-tuning your skills, taking you to the next level of ability.
