Friday 10 km Classic Race is Cancelled!
We are excited to announce that in 2024, the Ontario Masters XC Ski Championships will be held at Arrowhead Provincial Park, organized by Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club in conjunction with the Muskoka Loppet.
This is a 3 day event, culminating with participation in the Muskoka Loppet. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, Jan. 26: 10 km Classic Event - 2:00 pm Start (Registration closes January 23)
Due to freezing rain, there is a lot of debris on the trail and the conditions are poor. Coupled with the thaw and the forecast for rain tomorrow, the Friday 10km classic has been cancelled.
Saturday, Jan 27: 10 km Skate Event* - 10 am Start (Registration closes January 23)
Sunday, Jan 28: 30 km Classic Event (ages 30 – 69) 15 km classic event (ages 70 +) - 10:30 start. This event is in conjunction with the Muskoka Loppet. Registration closes January 25, 9.
If we have to cancel due to poor conditions, cancellation notice will be posted on January 24.
Registration opens November 20. Early Bird fees are in effect until midnight January 9.
NEW THIS YEAR:
Nordiq Canada (our governing body) has amended their insurance coverage. This is called a "Tier3 Licence". What this means is that our club must charge a $3.00 fee to every race registrant (per race/per day). This is an insurance-related fee and applies to everyone whether you have a race licence or not. The fee covers Nordiq Canada's increased insurance costs (charged by their insurer) for nordic races.
All clubs in Canada are subject to this new fee. This charge will be added to your race fee. However, Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club has decreased all of our registration fees by $3.00 to accommodate this cost.
There will be a social on Friday evening and a banquet on Saturday evening. Stay Tuned! Details TBA.
A ‘Master Skier’ starts at 30 years of age, and in Masters events, the categories are 5 year increments. Membership in the Ontario Masters XC Ski Association costs only $20.00 annually and is in our Loppet Points series, the Canadian and World Masters Championships and other social events.
