Club President’s 2011-12 Season Message
Happy Fall season skiers!
I hope everyone had a great summer. Here’s one of the more memorable things I did – retrieving my Coleman camp stove from Georgian Bay after it burst into flames and had to be dunked to avert a forest fire. Good times!
As we move into mid-October, we have many reasons to look forward to the winter. I predict that this will prove to be another big year for the Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club.
We will be kicking off the season on October 15th with our annual ski swap / sign-up day and trail clean-up. Last year our children’s programs set new records for numbers of participants and we are expecting high numbers again this year.
The Muskoka Loppet returns in January. Last year, cold weather forced us to cancel the event, much to everyone’s disappointment. Thanks to our great volunteers, many of whom had to set up and take down and did it with a smile – we hope to see you again in 2012.
The town of Huntsville will be hosting the high-school championships (OFSAA) for nordic skiing in February. The event will include sprint races through downtown Huntsville. What a great way for us to promote our favourite sport!
During the summer, our club was fortunate enough to receive two grants which total over $5,000. Many thanks to the SportRec committee and the the 2010 Ontario Winter Games Legacy Fund committee. The club board of directors has met several times over the last few months and have developed solid plans for how to spend this funding, along with other club money.
As always, there are many ways for members and the general public to become involved with the club. Please see any of the board members or coaching staff if you are interested in helping out!
Looking forward to seeing you on the trails!
Ken Parsons, Club President
